Naimisharanya, a major center of Hindu faith, is located in Sitapur district, 85 kms away from Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Naimisharanya or Naimish is mentioned in various Hindu Puranas and scriptures as a holy land, one of the eight temples of Lord Vishnu is here, along with Lalita Devi Temple as the presiding deity, Vyas Gaddi, Dadhichi Kund, Hanuman Garhi, Holy Chakra Kund etc. are famous religious places. The legend about its name is that sage Shaunak and other sages were looking for land for penance. For this all the sages went to Brahma ji, who gave them a wheel (CHAKRA) and told that the place where the Nemi falls of this wheel would be the most sacred place, after visiting India by all the sages, that Nemi fell at this place on the banks of the Gomti, since then Its name was Naimish or Naimisharanya and later this place became famous as Chakratirtha. It is also said that Lord Balarama came here after visiting all the pilgrimages, only then his journey was completed, that is why the essence of the completion of all the pilgrimages is obtained only by coming here. It is also believed that the sage Suta, the author of the Eighteen Puranas, and the great saint Surdas also lived here. Seeing the importance of this place, Adi Shankaracharya also visited this place. Presently, in order to revive the religious places of mythological importance and re-establish the old religious identity, 800 crore rupees are being spent by the government in Naimisharanya, which will transform this area, an unforgettable experience and spiritual pleasure for the devotees coming here.
